William Jennings “wig” Deaton, 91 years old, of Nebo, North Carolina, died on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Charles George VA Medical Center. A native of McDowell County, William was born on June 23, 1930 to the late Arthur and Alma Wilson Deaton.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Deaton.
William was a member of the Nebo United Methodist Church and a proud US Army veteran who served in the Korean War. He officially worked for Clinchfield Mills but later retired from Bost Bakery after thirty years of service. William was an avid fisherman and everyone knew he was the GOAT of crappie fishing. He was also a fan of North Carolina tar heels. He loved his family very much, but especially his grandchildren.
His 63-year-old wife Dottie Young Deaton is remembered; two children, Marianne Deaton and James Eric Deaton (Audrey); and two grandchildren, Nick and Natalee Deaton.
A funeral service with Reverends Kelly Dotson and Jerry Ruppe took place at the Beam Funeral Service on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. The family received friends at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., an hour before the service. After serving in the Wilson Ballew Cemetery, a burial with military honors followed.
