Sue Grizzle duty

May 6, 1938 – September 30, 2021

LEBANON, Virginia.

Sue Grizzle Duty died on September 30, 2021. Sue was born on May 6, 1938 to Tivis and Beulah Couch Grizzle.

She graduated from Cleveland High School and continued her education at Lees McRae College, Lincoln Memorial University, and the University of Virginia. She retired from Russell County Schools after teaching for over forty years. Her first teaching job was the last one-room school in Russell County. Sue preceded her parents Tivis and Beulah Couch Grizzle in death; Husband, Bill Duty; Stepson, William Duty; and granddaughter Mary-Kathryn Abernathy.

She is survived by her brother, Earl Mason Grizzle (Sandra) of Gate City, Virginia; Daughter Martha Brubaker (Robert “Bru”) from Christiansburg, Virginia, and son Gregory Crabtree from Cleveland, Virginia; and two stepchildren, Lisa Dove (Chris) of Richmond, Virginia, and Dr. Tim Duty from Sydney, Australia. Sue was Nana of Preston Harrington, Robyn Kane, Andrew Duty, Colton Crabtree and Elijah Brubaker and the great grandmother of Taylor, George and David Kane. She was aunt Sue of Travis and Darren Grizzle.

The service will take place on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at 2 p.m. in the Combs-Hess funeral service chapel under the direction of Pastor Larry Stinson. The family receives friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. before the service. After the funeral, the family will have a brief private memorial service. Pallbearers will be Tim Wallace, Kenney Keys, Travis Grizzle, Wayne Musick, James Chafin and Paul Campbell. Honorable pallbearers will be the men of Cleveland Baptist Church.
