Steven Smalley Obituary (1961 – 2022) – Bogue, NC

Steven Smalley, 60, of Bogue, NC, passed away on Sunday January 16, 2022 in Post Acute Medical of Rocky Mount.

Steven was born on November 15, 1961 to the late Joanne Hustava. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised in Marianna.

After high school, he served 12 years with honor in the United States Navy.

As a nuclear engineer, Steven researched and developed the processes, instruments and systems used to derive benefit from nuclear energy and radiation. His life’s work at Exelon Nuclear in LaSalle, Illinois was very fulfilling. In 2017 he and his late wife Sheri moved to the beautiful Crystal Coast where he pursued his favorite hobbies of golf and fishing.

He is survived by sons Andrew Smalley and Jonathon Tindall, both from Bogue; sisters Mary Febus and husband Chris of Medina, Ohio, and Sherri Turner and husband Monty of Marianna; brother, Jim Hustey and wife Danielle of Bentleyville; grandsons, Ever Tindall, Beau Tindall and Jesslyn O’Connor; mother-in-law Betty H. Sweeney of New Bern, NC; sisters-in-law Teresa Klotz of Grovetown, Georgia and Kelli Sweeney of Sarasota, Florida; brother-in-law John Sweeney and wife Kelli of Virginia Beach, Virginia; numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved English bulldog and best friend Ozzie.

His funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 22 at 11 a.m. at the Munden funeral home. The family receives friends an hour before the service.
