| Veterans Attorney Fred Gruchalla named Veteran of the Year

Vietnam War veteran Fred Gruchalla received the 2020-2021 Veteran of the Year Award from Van Nuys/Reseda Elks Lodge 2790 on January 10.

The award was presented to him by Van Nuys/Reseda Elks Lodge Exalted Ruler Meredith Thomas.

The award recognizes Gruchalla’s tireless work at Eternal Valley Memorial Park’s annual Memorial Day event, which honors veterans who gave their lives serving the country.

A known face throughout the Santa Clarita Valley for his volunteer work, Gruchalla has volunteered for numerous nonprofit organizations including the SCV Child & Family Center. He has also announced at the SCV Fourth of July Parade and hosted the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival on the main stage.

Gruchalla served in the US Army from 1966 to 1969. From July 1967 to July 1968 he served one year in Vietnam.

As an advocate for US military veterans, Gruchalla has supported the SCV Veterans Memorial Committee and the Veterans Historical Plaza Committee in the SCV.

He has also served on the board of directors for the Pacoima Veterans Day Memorial event and as a volunteer at Sepulveda VA Medical Center.
