Robert H. Gonnella Obituary –

Robert (Bob) Henry Gonnella, 93, of Kittery, ME, was welcomed into heaven on July 6, 2022. He died peacefully surrounded by his family.

Bob was born on September 29, 1928 in Jay, Maine to the late Peter Leroy and Grace (Volpe) Gonnella. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann (Messina) Gonnella, brothers Leroy Gonnella of Wake Forest, NC and Anthony Gonnella of Apex, NC, sister Ann Powers of Lynnfield, MA and children Robert Gonnella (Barbara) of West Yarmouth, MA, Elaine Williams (Joel) from Billerica, MA, William Gonnella (Teresa) from Billerica, MA, Edward Gonnella (Donna) from Old Town, ME, Thomas Gonnella (Judy) from Gettysburg, PA, James Gonnella (Brenda) from North Charleston, SC, Susan Roberto (Fred) from North Charleston, SC, David Gonnella (Jennifer) from Portland, OR, Steven Gonnella from Wakefield, MA, stepchildren Mark Yeanacopolis from Danvers, MA, and Gina (Jim) Rix from Ipswitch, MA In addition, he is survived by thirty-four grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, former wife Lorraine (Bergeron) Gonnella, sister Virginia Miraglia, brother George Gonnella, and grandson John Gonnella.

Bob was a lifetime member of the Carpenters Union. He began his career as a welder at Otis Mill in Livermore Falls, Maine, but after a few years moved to Massachusetts where he became a carpenter and worked for the Fay Construction Company. eventually worked his way up to site manager. He left Fay Construction in the 1970s to join brothers Tony and George in founding his own business, Gonnella Brothers, which later became Gonnella Construction Company, which he successfully ran for over 20 years before his retirement. He continued to work but was always available to help with friends/family projects or as a local volunteer in his adopted home of Kittery.

Camping and hiking were two of his passions as he led the family/extended family on annual trips for 50 years before finally handing the helm to the next generation. An active member of the Catholic Church, he was a strong man of faith throughout his life. Bob was a man of character who lived his life as a role model for everyone he met.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial service to be held at 10 a.m. on August 3, 2022 at the Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1155 Main St, Wakefield, MA. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to hospice provider Amedysis Company by clicking the link:
