Robert “Bob” Gruss Sr., 85, of Stevensville, died on Saturday June 12, 2021 at Lakeland Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. At Bob’s request, his body was donated to the University of Michigan Body Donation Program so he could help find a cure for cancer.
A memorial service to commemorate life will take place at a later date. Bob was born on July 29, 1935 in Benton Harbor to Andrew and Zona (Rea) Gruss. He attended and graduated from St. John’s Catholic High School. After high school, Bob proudly enlisted in the US Navy, where he served on the USS Perry from 1952 to 1956.
On July 13, 1957, Bob married the love of his life, Bonnie Hoadley, in Watervliet. He worked as a press operator at Burch Printers for over 40 years and also held the title of supervisor for a number of years. Bob enjoyed taking pictures and developing his photos, and outdoor camping and fishing. He also loved traveling anywhere that had a story with the US Navy.
While his grandchildren were in middle and high school, Bob could be seen at almost all of their events that sponsored his grandchildren and the Lakeshore Lancers. Bob loved his family dearly and is missed by everyone who knows him.
Bob leaves behind his almost 64-year-old, loving wife, Bonnie; Children: Pattie (Mike) Keith of St. Joseph and Bob Jr., (Carla Holub) Greetings from Florida; Daughter-in-law Cathy Bowman Greetings from Monticello, Ind .; Grandsons: Jodie (Mike) Perrin and Kevin (Jenn) Keith; Great-grandchildren: Natalia and Nicholas Perrin and Dylan and Landry Breault; and brother-in-law Edward Hemerling of Tamarac, Florida.
In death his parents preceded him: Andrew and Zona Gruss; Sisters: Patricia Gruss and Janice Hemerling; and granddaughter Megan Marie Gruss.
