Rev. Jerry Edison Key | obituaries

Rev. Jerry Edison Key, 76, of Boomer, passed away Friday, March 18, 2022 at Atrium Health-Wake Forest Baptist-Wilkes Medical Center. He was born on January 19, 1946 in Wilkes County to Rev. Juddie Edison and Pearl Johnson Key. He was a US Navy veteran and attended Sharon Walker Baptist Church. Rev. Key pastored four churches over a period of 45 years, including 10 years at Wilkes Towers. He was a faithful Christian, faithful husband and father. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting, and loved talking about the Bible. Rev. Key was preceded in death by his parents and sister Nancy Watkins.

Rev. Key is survived by his 56-year-old wife, Sallie Absher Key of Boomer; daughter, Juerita Waddell and wife, Chad, of Moravian Falls; sons Christopher Key and wife Christy of Dallas, NC; Philip Key and wife Stacey of Moravian Falls; Grandchildren, Ashley Waddell of North Wilkesboro, Nicholas Key of Raleigh, Caroline Key of Dallas, NC, Acacia Myers, MacKenzie Key, Ginger Cleary, all of Moravian Falls; and siblings, Rev. David Key and wife, Frances. from North Wilkesboro, Ethel Blankenship and spouse James, from Millers Creek, Mary Alice South and spouse Jerry from Deep Gap, Rev. Don Key and spouse Dottie from Lenoir, Roger Key and spouse Linda and William Key, all Millers Creek.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at the Miller Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. Robert Wiles and Rev. David Key. The burial with military honors by Williams/Canter (Brushy Mtn.) Marine Corps League Detachment 1187 will follow at Moravian Falls Cemetery. The family will meet friends at the Miller Funeral Service on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. before the service. Flowers are accepted. Miller funeral service is responsible for the organization.
