Ray Silfies Obituary (2022) – Bath, PA

Ray C. Silfies, 86, of Fogelsville, formerly Allentown, died Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest. Born in Bath, he was a son of the late Robert Sr. and Dorothy (Gehret) Silfies. Ray served proudly and honorably in the United States Army. A member of UNITE, the former International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union, Ray worked in the garment industry as a tailor for 50 years. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed going to the casinos and was known as a “junk food junkie” who loved cookies and baked goods. Ray’s family, one of 18, was most important to him and he valued family reunions and time with loved ones. He attended St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Allentown.

Survivors: Ray is survived by his son, Curtis A. Silfies, and his wife, Faten, with whom he lived; daughter Karen L. Zimmerman and husband Donald of Salisbury Parish; stepson Troy Wampole and wife Kimberly of New Tripoli; four grandchildren, Olivia, Norah, Sean and Sarah and husband Joshua; a great-grandson, Asher; Brother, Robert Silfies, Jr.; four sisters, Jean Flyte and husband William, Catherine Werner, Patricia Hahn and Valeta “Tootie” Inhoff and husband Joseph; former wife, Miriam (Houser) Wampole; along with many nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his companion, Anita M. Havers; six brothers, Stanley, Elwood, Ralph, William, David Sr. and Donald Silfies, Sr.; and six sisters, Barbara Staples, Lorraine Lieberman, Marie Ott, Charlotte Getz, Susan Montz, and Eleanor Kline.

Services: A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the GEORGE G. BENSING FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 2165 Community Drive, Route 946, Village of Moorestown – Bath, PA 18014. Friends and relatives are invited to call the funeral home on Wednesday mornings from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Allentown.
