Obituary of Douglas Carroll (1981–2022) – Fayetteville, NC

SFC Douglas William Carroll, 40, died at his home on Sunday January 30, 2022 surrounded by loved ones.
Douglas was born on July 14, 1981 in Orlando, Florida to David Wayne Carroll and Shirley Ann Maness. SFC Carroll joined the US Army on April 12, 2001 and completed its voyage on Sunday January 30th. He served with compassion and always gave his soldiers and the US Army his all. His tours included several deployments in Afghanistan and Iraq. His love for the US Army extended to his family and children. He will be greatly missed but his legacy will live on through his military family and children.
SFC Carroll served with the highest distinction and received the following awards during his military career: Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award), Army Commendation Medal (2nd OLC), Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal, (6th Award ), Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/Bronze Service Star, Iraq Campaign Medal w/Bronze Service Star, 3 Arrowheads, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon , (4), Meritorious Unit Commendation, High-ranking Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Driver and Mechanic Badge, Combat and Special Ability (Marksmanship) Badge, Overseas Service Bar, (5).
SFC Carroll is survived by his wife Jessica Rivas of Linden, NC; father, David Wayne Carroll of Aiken, SC; mother, Shirley Ann Maness of Linden, NC; sons, William Rivas Carroll, Ryan Rivas Carroll, Bradley Rivas Carroll and Jonathan Stewart Jr., all of Linden, NC; daughters, Jennifer Rivas Carroll, Laura Rivas Carroll, both from Linden and Kaylee Carroll of New York; one sister, Crystal Ann Carroll of Aiken, SC; his grandmother, Jennie Maness of Linden and a variety of extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, William Maness, Wayne & Lola Carroll, and a great-grandmother, Laura Bailey.
The viewing will be on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the LaFayette Funeral Home, 6651 Raeford Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28304.
The funeral will be held at a chapel in Fort Bragg on Wednesday February 16, 2022 with Rev. Glenn Lucas and Chaplain (CPT) Lemuel Pearsall
Funeral services with full military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 8220 Bragg Blvd. Fort Bragg, NC 28310.
