Obituary for Judith Marlene (Hansen) Thompson

obituary

Judith Marlene Hansen Thompson passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Savior on October 27th, 2022 at Our House of Ogden where she has lived happily for the past 3 years. Her family have been there to comfort her over the past few days and we know that she appreciated having us with her. Mom was one of the sweetest and kindest people on this planet, she was always helping others, smiling and finding positive things in every situation. Her infectious smile and sweet laughter brought joy to everyone around her.

Born on March 1, 1934 to Rulon and Edith Hansen in her grandmother’s home, Mother was raised with her 3 brothers and one sister on the family farm in Garland, Utah. She learned skills and life lessons that she passed on for all her years. She graduated from Bear River High School where she worked at Bearfax and was a member of the Pep Club where she attended all of the school’s football and basketball games.

She married Reed Thompson in 1954 and from this union she was blessed with 4 children, Cherryl, Rulon (Tim), Ronald and Kevin. She and Reed later divorced. Mom worked for the IRS and DDO for over 33 years where she received many awards for outstanding service. After her retirement, she still felt the need to be productive, so she joined Ogden City Schools as a staff assistant in the Department of At-Risk Children’s Corrections. She loved being involved in the school program and enjoyed teaching on occasion. She was an instructor for Weight Watchers, where she helped many people learn better eating habits and helped them lead healthier lives. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has held many positions within the church over the years.

Mom was fortunate to have traveled six continents with her friends on many different trips, creating memories that lasted a lifetime. She was an avid Utah Jazz fan as well as a huge Weber State Wildcats fan and attended all home games for many years. She loved bowling and spent several years in a winter league at Ben Lomond Lanes having great fun with her archery buddies. When summer came she loved to play golf and was in the Swan Lakes Ladies League for several years. She even got a hole-in-one, which she joked gave her something to write in her obituary.

Mother is survived by children Cherryl (Warren) Price, Rulon (Tim & Donna) Thompson and Kevin Thompson, 12 grandchildren (2 sets of twins), 15 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Leon (Shelley) Hansen, Jean Reniker, and Bruce Hansen. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son Ronald Thompson and a brother George Hansen.
