Neely Miller Obituary (1933-2021) – Lorain, OH


Neely N. “Neal” Miller, 88 years old, of Sheffield Village, died on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at Cleveland University Hospital after a sudden illness. Neal was an organ donor. Born December 11, 1933 in Widen, West Virginia, he lived in Strongsville, then Columbia Station, before serving in the US Army during the Vietnam War. After serving, he lived in Berea, then Sheffield Lake, before settling in Sheffield Village in 1970. Neal worked for Ford Motor Company Cleveland Engine Plant as a block mechanic for 43 years and retired in 1995. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union Local 1250 and a lifetime member of the NRA, Sportsmen’s Gun and Reel Club, and the Fitchville Conservation League. Neal loved spending time outdoors, hunting, camping, going for walks, and driving his four-wheel drive. He was proud to have harvested 97 deer in his life. He also enjoyed watching auto races at Lorain County Speedway and Sandusky Speedway, and participating in NASCAR racing events. Daughters: Sharon B. (Luis) Otero of Lorain, Sandra J. (Mike) Ciarrone of Avon Lake, Shirley J. (Frank) Gentile of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Sara D. McDaniel of Lorain; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; Brothers: Jim (Judith) Miller from Varina, NC and Larry (Mickey) Miller from Miami, FL; and sisters: Geneva Graham of Bradenton, FL, Irene Dumas of Berea, and Gladys McLaughlin of N. Ridgeville. He was preceded in death by his parents Homer and Lettie (nee Starcher) Miller; three sisters and four brothers. Family will be welcomed to friends at Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor of St. Peter’s Parish in Lorain, will take over the office. He is buried in Garfield Cemetery in Sheffield Village. The Amvets Post 32 will conduct military honors.
