Nabil W. Basta, MD obituary

Nabil W. Basta, MD of Wellesley and Hyannis (March 26, 2022). Nadine Basta’s beloved husband for 60 years. Devoted father of Karim Basta and his wife Suya of New Canaan, Connecticut and St. Croix, USVI, and Paul Basta and his wife Stephanie of New York City, New York. Dear grandfather of Michelle, Natalie, Maggie, Jeffrey and Andrew. Brother of the late Leila Cayci.

dr Basta was born on May 15, 1932 in Cairo, Egypt. He graduated from Victoria College in Cairo in 1951 and from Cairo University in 1958. He was a longtime orthopedic surgeon at Columbia Metrowest/Leonard Morse Hospital. There he worked, among other things, as chief physician for orthopedic surgery, chief physician for sports medicine, secretary and vice president of the medical staff and president of the medical staff.

He was football coach for Wellesley United for a decade and an avid fisherman in Nantucket Sound and surrounding waters. He was a trusted advisor and friend to many.

A memorial service was held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., Wellesley at 3:00 p.m. Basta instead. Burial at Oak Neck Cemetery, Hyannis on Friday, April 1, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. For the online guest book Burial arrangements by George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, Wellesley.
