Mary L. (Adams) Steele obituary

Mary Steele, 96, died April 8, 2022. She was born on February 7, 1926 in Muskingum County, Ohio to the late Clyde and Ruth Adams but lived most of her life in the Green Area.

Mary loved her family and was a valued mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her zest for life was spending time with her family, cooking and baking her favorite dishes and desserts. She was famous for her cakes and sugar cookies. Mary also enjoyed playing cards, sewing and reading.

Late in life, Mary found love for Nathan Wellman. During the 11 years they were together, they enjoyed traveling throughout both the United States and China. He brought a lot of joy and adventure into her life, which helped her stay young.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her 46-year-old husband Homer Steele and 5 siblings. She is survived by her son Paul Steele and daughter Connie (Butch) Riggs; grandchildren, Sheri (Steve) Haenftling, Tiffany (Brian) Wise, Nick Steele, Travis Steele, Shannon (Alfredo) Torres and Lisa (Joel) Robinson; great-grandchildren, Gavin Riggs, Braeden Wise, Micah Robinson, Cameron and Carter Torres; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, Ohio 44319. Family and friends can call Friday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Greensburg Cemetery.
