Lucas Kanelo’s obituary (2001-2022) – Marvin, NC

Lucas Peter Kanelos
July 26, 2001 – January 4, 2022
Marvin, North Carolina – Lucas Peter Kanelos, 20 years old, received his angel wings on Tuesday, January 4th, 2022 after a brief illness but a lifelong battle with multiple illnesses. He was born on July 26, 2001 in Charlotte, NC.
Lucas was a happy young man with a million dollar smile and an infectious laugh. He loved pearls, music, ice cream, and splashing in all kinds of water. Those lucky enough to know him had either been struck by pearls or soaked during a splash episode. Lucas was both mischievous and a charmer, especially with women. When he gave you his million dollar smile and bowed his head, it meant he was trying to win you over.
Lucas is survived by his parents Dino and Sharon Kanelos; two sisters, Melina and Ariana and his three dogs Sadie, Suki and Gracie, who all loved him very much. He is also survived by his grandparents Pete and Anna Kanelos and Carol Bumbulucz, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral service for Lucas will take place on Saturday, January 8th, 2022 at 12:00 in the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Nektarios in Charlotte. Andreas Houpos officiate. He is buried in the Forest Lawn East Cemetery in Matthews. The family receives friends at church an hour before the service. The family asked all participants to wear a mask. The service will also be broadcast live at https://www.stnektarios.org/new_webcast for those who cannot attend in person.
Instead of flowers, monuments in memory of Lucas can be offered Shriners hospitals for children, e.g. Handed: Office of Development, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607, who has looked after him with such care over the years. A memorial donation can also be made to Project2Heal, 7800 Providence Road S., Marvin, NC 28173, a wonderful organization that gave Lucas two loving service dogs. Lucas attended the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Nektarios, where he liked to sing on Sundays even though he was not in the choir. Everyone in attendance knew when Lucas was at church. The family requests that memorials in his honor be directed to St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church, 5108 Kuykendall Road, Charlotte, NC 28270.
Many thanks to everyone who has looked after Lucas exceptionally and lovingly over the years, especially to Monchel, who was at his side until the very end.
May his memory be eternal.
