Lois Viola Crites Beery, 95, of Buckhannon, W.Va., died on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
She was born on November 29, 1925 in Upshur County, W.Va., to the late Fred and Edith Burr Crites. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 65-year-old husband Donald Beery; one son, Douglas W. Beery; three brothers, Creed, Loren “Buck” and Scott Crites and two sisters, Zelma Lemons and Lorene Teets.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Carol Beery of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; a granddaughter, Angela Niswonger and husband Bob of Mount Holly Springs, Pennsylvania; a great-granddaughter Makenna Niswonger of Mount Holly Springs; her campsite family, Ellery, Carla, Tim, Tom, Mary, Gary, Delbert, Tony, Keith, Jennifer, and Allen; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Beery owned and operated Pioneer Campground and operated Upshur County 4-H Camp in Selbyville, W.Va. She was an avid mountaineer and loved watching the games with her friends and family. She was happiest when she was with her family and friends.
The family thanks the great staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital, 3approx Stock, NCF unit that looked after you so special. They all made the last few years of her life special and she loved them all like family.
In order to comply with Mrs. Beery’s request, she is cremated.
On Saturday, September 4, 2021, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., friends will attend a memorial event in Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home at 3:00 p.m. under the direction of Rev. J. Edward McDaniels.
