Lela “Margaret” Troutman, 90, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 8:23 am on Friday, August 5, 2022 at Addington Place, Fort Madison, IA. She was born on November 13, 1931 in Mt. Sterling, IA to Ralph & Gladys Brasfield Hales. She married Oscar Gregg and they later divorced. She met and married Marvin “Whitey” Meyer, and he preceded her in death. In 1996 she married Jim Troutman and he preceded her in death on May 30, 2011. She worked at Sheaffer Pen, Sylvania, waitressed at several restaurants, worked at the DMV, was a meter maid, and later owned and operated Two of a friendly bar. She was a member of the Fort Madison United Methodist Church and the DAR Jean Espy Chapter at Fort madison She enjoyed travel, stained glass, gardening, reading and spending time with her family. She loved all animals, especially her cats.
Margaret leaves behind: 2 daughters: Denise (Charles) Hendrickson of Shelbyville, IL & Dianne (Sam) Johnson of Fort Madison, IA; 1-Step Daughter: Sherri Troutman from Iowa, 2-Step Sons: Jim (Chris) Troutman & Robert (Betsy) Troutman, both from Iowa; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren & step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 husbands and 1 brother.
There will be a tour of the King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 from 9:30am to 10:30am. The funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory, conducted by Pastor Jeff Metcalf. Burial will be in Soldiers’ Circle in Oakland Cemetery.
