Carl L Richardson
Nov. 2, 1932 –
June 23, 2022
Carl L. Richardson, 89, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died on June 23, 2022 at his home in Plain Grove Township, Lawrence County after a long journey with dementia.
Carl was born on November 2, 1932 to Blaine and Gladys Richardson and grew up with his sister Nancy Richardson Rupert in the small town of Elderton, Pennsylvania.
From 1955 to 1957 he served in the US Navy as a Fire Control Engineer
Carl married Carol A. Jack in 1959 and later married Mary Brzezicki in 1983.
He worked for Magnetics/Spang in East Butler, Pennsylvania for 40 years until his retirement in 1994.
Carl will always be remembered by his family for his deep connection to nature.
An avid deer hunter and steward of the land, he could often be seen in a wide-brimmed hat and long-sleeved shirt working on his many projects.
His grandchildren have their memories of boating on the lakes and of the fish with Grandpa being attracted to the fish food he threw to groups of bass, crappie, bluegills and the occasional carp.
Gardening and growing was also a passion. Together with his wife Mary he maintained a large vegetable garden and a beautiful orchard and with his children planted thousands of trees which now densely cover the land.
Most importantly, Carl will be remembered for his wisdom and leadership. He could always be counted on day or night for good advice or just to listen.
He found great solace in later life in studying the Bible and enjoyed fellowship as an active member of the Plain Grove Presbyterian Church. Though his memory was faint at the end, his strength will live on to inspire his family. While his spirit has moved on, his memory will live on in the trees that hug the shores of the lakes.
Carl is survived by his wife, Mary B. Richardson; Children, Kathleen Richardson, Diane Richardson and Jay Richardson, all from Volant; stepson, Michael Brzezicki; stepdaughter Suzanne Fields; grandchildren, Parker Maynard, Stephanie Sale, Jacob Richardson, David Shields, Diana Shields, Daniel Shields, Dana Shields, Athena Fowler, Anna Heasley, Faith Richardson, Scott Fields and Vickie Guzan; and five great-grandchildren.
Carl is buried in Morningside Cemetery in DuBois, Pennsylvania, and a memorial service is planned for late summer.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations at Carl’s Memorial to Plain Grove Presbyterian Church, 626 Plain Grove Road, Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, 16057, (724) 530-2144, [email protected]
