Judith Ellen Madonia 1939 – 2022

SPRINGFIELD, IL – Judith Ellen Madonia, 82, of Maryville and formerly of Springfield, Illinois, died Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 9:34 p.m. at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon. She was born on September 25, 1939 in Chester, Illinois to the late Perl and Edith (Wooten) Hunsaker. She married Andrew V. Madonia on December 1, 1962 in St. Louis, Missouri and he died on February 26, 2013. Judy enjoyed 20 years as an art teacher at Springfield School District #186. She also served the residents of Springfield as the city’s treasurer-elect from 1983 to 2003. She has served on the Lincoln Land Community College Trustees Committee, the Illinois Community College Trustees Association, and the Illinois Municipal Treasurer’s Association. She was very artistic and creative and loved to inspire people with art and enjoyed her traveling days. She will be remembered for the love and special times she shared with her family and friends. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Patricia Madonia of Corrales, New Mexico; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen “Mary” and Brad Maxwell of Edwardsville; three grandchildren, Reagan Madonia, Zane Maxwell and Lillian Maxwell; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Dick Walters of Evansville, Indiana, Joan and John Stull of Bradenton, Florida, and Sally and Roger Tedrick of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Hunsaker. In celebration of her life, a memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. memorial service at the Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon, where Reverend Ron McGrew will officiate . She will be buried on Friday, June 24, 2022 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois with an 11:00 a.m. funeral service conducted by the Reverend Daryl Fansler.
