James Allen “Corky” Misner

02/27/1946 – 12/25/2021

MERRILLVILLE, IN – James Allen “Corky” Misner of Merrillville, IN, died early Christmas morning 2021 with his wife Sophie by his side. He was 75 years old.

Jim leaves behind his wife, Sophie Misner; Sister Janet Misner; Daughter Alexis (Terry) Coady; his daughter-in-law Victoria Thanos; two grandchildren: John (Amanda) Thanos and Michael Thanos; Granddaughter Corrie (Dominic) Papalia; Great grandson Mark Shane Thanos; and many other relatives and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents: Ray and Elizabeth Misner; and his son Mark Thanos.

Jim was born in East Chicago, IN to Ray and Elizabeth Misner. He lived in the area all his life, graduating from Dyer Central High School and continuing his education at Purdue Calumet, where he earned his degree in industrial engineering. This knowledge enabled him to excel in his 45 year career as an industrial engineer at the Arcelor-Mittal (Bethlehem Steel) facility in Burns Harbor, IN.

Jim was a bass master who took his fishing buddies on annual trips to troll the lakes of Canada. He also took part in bass master tournaments in the United States. He and Sophie enjoyed going to flea markets, auctions, and estate sales. Jim’s family would like to express their thanks to the staff of the traditional hospice and his home care assistant, Miss T., from whom he received excellent care. May his blessed memory be forever.

The visitation for Jim will take place on Thursday, December 30th, 2021 at GEISEN FUERAL, CREMATION & RECEPTION CENTER, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the time of the memorial service Clock with Ms. Theodore Poteres in office. The burial takes place privately in the Calumet Park Cemetery. The family demands that masks be worn in the funeral home.
