James Edwin Sharber was born on December 22, 1928 in Bainbridge, GA to JO and Clara Mills Sharber. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1946. Joe proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He married Patricia Ann Austin and they settled in Bainbridge. Joe owned JE Sharber Oil Company until his retirement. He was a retired director and former chairman of First Port City Bank. Joe was also a member of First Baptist Church and the Baracca Sunday School Class.

Joe Sharber was born during the Silent Generation. He was an outspoken traditionalist, although he marched to his own rhythm. Customer service was undoubtedly a gift from Joe and his work ethic was second to none. (Joe worked every day until he was 80.) Joe was strong in character and steadfast in his relationships. Most of his clients became lifelong friends, especially those who shared his passion for the outdoors. He loved to travel, especially when it came to a turkey or deer hunting trip. He had many trophies but was most proud of his Wild Turkey World Grand Slam. Joe has fished Lake Seminole, Flint River and Spring Creek. The stories he’d shared over the years about net suckers and catching stripers resembled the kind of adventures most only dream of.

Survivors include his children Jerry D. Sharber (Cena), Lisa A. Sharber and Lynn Sharber, all from Bainbridge; his daughter-in-law Gail E. Sharber; his sister Martha Jo Clement; his grandchildren Jes, Tabitha & Blake, Jy & Stephen, Matthew, Daniel and Rebecca; his great-grandchildren Joe, Wesley, Andrew, Annabelle, Emily, and Grayson; and a large number of extended families. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his 61-year-old wife Patty Sharber; his son Eddie Sharber; and his siblings Alice Venable, Clara Jean Skarponi and Dr. Pete Sharber.

The Bryant Funeral Home at 105 N. Florida Street is helping the family with the preparations. (229-246-3321)
