Howard N. Rulander, 89, of Warren and Clarendon, formerly Davey Hill of Pittsfield, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at St. Vincent Hospital.
He was born in Davey Hill on March 26, 1933 to the late Fred and Bessie Chambers Rulander. Howard served in his district in the US Army in Alaska from 1954 to 1956 where he received the National Defense Service Metal, Good Conduct Metal and Marksmanship Badge.
He married Sally Jane Toner Rulander in Warren on July 3, 1965, who preceded him in death on August 14, 1995.
He was employed as a machinist with Rexnord Industries in Warren for over 25 years and also with Deluxe Metals, Warren for over 10 years. He and his wife owned and operated a cattle ranch on Davey Hill for many years. Talented in construction, Howard built a house on Yankee Bush Road, Warren and made many improvements to his home in Davey Hill.
He enjoyed playing bocce ball through the Senior Center at Warren Mall, bowling in various leagues and roller skating in Jamestown and Bradford. Howard loved visiting his friends at Burger King in Warren and having his “Senior Pepsi” there.
He enjoyed attending Victory Baptist Church in Clarendon.
Surviving are two children: a son, David H. Rulander of Warren, and a daughter, Helen J. Rulander of Clarendon; three brothers: Curt Rulander of Scandia, Fred Rulander of North Warren and Lester Rulander of Davey Hill, Pittsfield; two grandchildren: Jason Robert Rulander of Warren and Daniel J. Rulander of Clarendon; a granddaughter, Alesha; a special friend, Peggy Hoover from Warren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Rulander; four sisters: Lettie Rulander Anderson, Violet Rulander Thomas, Marie Rulander Johnson and Vel-ma Rulander; and a special friend, Maxine Slack.
There will be a visiting hour at Otterbein Un-ited Methodist Church, 258 Dalrymple St., Pittsfield, PA 16340 on Wednesday, September 14, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the church on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Nate Fugate. After the funeral service, a funeral service will be held with full military honors.
