Honey Olinda (Apo) Laborte of Lahaina, Maui, left her temporary home and, as she promised, ascended to heaven on July 21, 2022 with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in her residence in Lahaina, surrounded by her loved ones on.

A cremains memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Waiola Church, 535 Waine’e Street, Lahaina. Family viewing is at 8:00 am with public viewing from 9:00 am – 11:00 am and a service from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. Ashes will be scattered at a later date to be announced. The family requests that leis be given in loving memory in lieu of flowers. Nakamura Mortuary kindly assists you with any arrangements.

Aunty Honey was born in Honolulu on October 13, 1933 to Arthur & Adline (Sheldon) Apo and moved to Lahaina, Maui when she was young. She spent the days of her youth in Mala with her sisters Addie, Lily, Nola and Iris and attended King Kamehameha III School until the 8th grade when she left school to work. She worked for Baldwin Packers, the Royal Lahaina Resort, Christine’s Laundry, and eventually Pioneer Mill, where she became one of the company’s first Wahine machine operators. She retired in 1999 as a warehouse clerk at Pioneer Mill. She also served for many years as a union representative for the ILWU.

In her free time, Honey would take trips to Las Vegas with her sisters, play cards, play music with the Lahaina Honolua Seniors, and reminisce about her youth with family and friends.

She is predeceased from her loving husband Albert, with whom she was 70 years old “Irik” La-borte, son Delhi, parents Arthur & Adline Apo, sisters Sophie, Evalani, Shirley, Elaine & Nola, brother Richard Swan & Hanai son Dale Simonsen.

She is survived by her children Leila, Lawrence “Larry” (Debby), Kenneth (Margie), Kim Lee (Bobby Chang Jr.), daughter-in-law Liz Haia, Hanai sons Melvin Seo and Roy (Evelyn) Yamada, 22 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and a great-great-great granddaughter. She is also survived by her sisters Addie Hoshino, Lily (Manuel) Criste and Iris Dusenberry, sister-in-law Elizabeth “Favorite” (Herman) Edlao and numerous loving nieces, nephews and extended ‘ohana.

Aunty Honey’s family would like to wish Dr. Thank you to Kimmie Ouchi, Kaiser Lahaina, Maui Health Systems, Islands Hospice Maui and everyone who blessed our mother’s life with their love and presence.
