Ferguson was buried in Joburg’s Fourways Cemetery on Wednesday.
The veteran actor, who was married to award-winning actress Connie Ferguson, died on Friday July 30 of complications related to Covid-19 after spending a week in intensive care at Milpark Hospital.
According to the Covid-19 protocol, only 50 invited guests are allowed to enter the memorial.
Connie took to Instagram on Thursday to share a picture of her late husband with a touching message to Mzanzi: âI really have no more words to say than thank you. Thank you South Africa, the continent and the whole world for the love, words of comfort and prayers. My family and I appreciate you. God bless you all.
âTo my friends and colleagues, your support has been immeasurable! Thank you and God bless and multiply. “
While Connie did not speak at the funeral, she paid tribute to her husband with a recorded audio message.
In her sincere tribute, she began by addressing Shona directly: âMy love, my skat⦠Never in a million years would I have thought that I would be in the position I am today. The way I speak today, without your physical presence. “
Speakers at the funeral included Shona’s older brother Dominique Ferguson, daughters Lesedi Matsunyane-Ferguson and Alicia Ferguson, and Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa.
