Corpus Christi parks, pools and paddling pools
Sometimes you just need to take the kids to a free place. In addition to operating municipal and wading pools, the Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department oversees 190 parks, ranging from large flagship parks like Cole Park and the Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve & Learning Center to smaller neighborhood parks. Not all have play equipment or other amenities, so check the link below before you go. Keep in mind that all parks operated by the city of Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation are open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Click here for an interactive Google map listing all parks under the care of the Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department.
Here are some highlights among the parks in Corpus Christi:
Cole Park
2600 Ocean Drive
Cole Park is the ideal place for kids looking for an expansive playground for all ages, a strong breeze for kite flying, a brand new fishing dock, a skate park or just wide open spaces to run around, all with a view of Corpus Christi Bay.
Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve & Learning Center
2446 N. Oso Ave
Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation operates this 450-acre conservation area along Oso Bay. Not only can you hike the trails and have fun in the playground, the park staff offers family science programs at the learning center (which is air-conditioned and has restrooms). Follow their Facebook page to see what kind of programs they offer.
Salinas Park
1354 Airport Street
Nestled within the athletic fields and pavilion at Salinas Park is one of the best playgrounds in Corpus Christi: the Play-For-All Playground. The fenced play area is designed for children of all physical and mental abilities and features zip lines, gliders and other play equipment suitable for children in wheelchairs and relaxation areas for children who need a sensory break. Be sure to check out the oversized musical instruments and play a tune.
Water’s Edge Park
600 block of Shoreline Blvd.
One of the city’s newest parks, Water’s Edge includes brand new play equipment and a fenced-in dog park so the little ones and dogs can play at the same time. The park is right next to McGee Beach on the bay, so it’s a short walk to dip your toes in the sand.
Hazel Bazemore Park
4343 District Road 69
Operated by Nueces County, this park may be more popular with bird watchers — the park hosts the annual HawkWatch in the fall — and has plenty of spots for kids, including playground equipment, hiking trails, and bird walks, or you might prefer a picnic on the banks of the river river Nueces. The opening hours are daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
