Fremont County DUI Task Force arrests 7 for DUI during Memorial Day weekend surgery

A multi-state enforcement operation in Fremont County for disabled drivers over Memorial Day weekend resulted in 173 traffic stops, 7 disabled driver arrests and 3 controlled substance arrests.

In 2021, Fremont County had 12 fatal accidents and 13 traffic-related deaths. Eight of the 13 deaths were alcohol-related. In 2021, Fremont County had 56 alcohol-related accidents. In 2022, Fremont County had 4 fatal accidents and 5 fatalities from impaired driving.

The Fremont County DUI Task Force includes the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, and the Lander, Riverton, Shoshoni, and Wind River Police Departments.

The purpose of the Fremont County DUI Task Force is to reduce fatal accidents through enforcement of impaired driving and seat belt laws. These enforcement efforts are supported by a media campaign emphasizing law enforcement’s zero tolerance stance on impaired driving and commitment to seat belt enforcement.

The Fremont County DUI Task Force will be back at work on July 4 over the July 1-4 holiday.

The Fremont County DUI Task Force recommends safe alternatives to drinking and driving:

  • Remember that drinking and driving is never okay. Even if you’ve only had one alcoholic beverage, designate a sober driver or plan to use public transit, taxis, or ridesharing to get home safely.
  • If you see a drunk driver on the road, contact the Fremont County Police Department or dial 911.
  • Do you have a friend who is drinking and driving? Take away the keys and plan to bring your friend home safely.
