Ellen M. Spencer, 79, of New Buffalo died at Northwest Health-LaPorte on Friday, December 3, 2021.
A funeral service will be held at Lakeside Cemetery, Lakeside on Friday, December 10th at 11:00 AM.

Ellen was born on October 2, 1942, to Edmond T. and Anna (Wickoski) Purtha in Michigan City, Indiana. She graduated from New Buffalo High School.
On December 9, 1960, Ellen married the love of her life, Carl William Spencer. Together they owned and operated CW Spencer Landscaping for more than 30 years before selling their business. Ellen then worked for Walmart in the jewelry department for over 15 years before she retired.
Ellen was known for her giving heart. She was often found to help others when they were in need. She was a member of the Faith City Assembly of God for over 50 years, where she also volunteered for their pantry and soup kitchen.
Ellen has always been adventurous and hasn’t let her age sink in. At the age of 70 she went skydiving and took her first ride on a motorcycle. She liked to knit, sew, cook and work in the garden. Ellen also had a passion for travel.
Ellen leaves behind her children: Carl (Celestena) Spencer from Benton Township, Marvin Spencer from Bridgman, and Dereaciea (Jerry) Schamp from Little Rock, Ark .; Grandchildren: Tasia (Wade) Sandlin, Dalaney (Bree Wines) Green, William Spencer, and Charles Spencer; numerous great-grandchildren; Brother Richard (Cathy) Purtha of Three Oaks; and special friend, Ken Shelby.
Ellen preceded her parents in death; Husband, Carl William Spencer; Daughter Viviana Lynn Spencer; and siblings: Donna Gushrowski and Victor Purtha.
