Doris Ackerman obituary (1934 – 2022) – Mentor, OH

Doris F. Ackerman, 88, a longtime Lake County resident, died February 18, 2022 at Vista Springs Quail Highlands in Concord Twp. She was born on February 11, 1934 in Markleysburg, Pennsylvania. Ackerman was the principal’s secretary at Mentor High School for 25 years. She also thrived selling Lake County real estate to her friends and colleagues. After she retired; she volunteered at the Painesville United Methodist Church. Doris loved talking to everyone she met and shopping was her passion. She loved to travel to sunny destinations with her family and her grandchildren were her pride. Doris enjoyed visiting the bright lights in Las Vegas and spending Jim’s money. Survivors include their children, Cindy Luoma and Teresa Lyden; grandchildren Jessica (Pablo) Carmona, Kelly (Chris Sands) Luoma, Meghan (Tim) Hartinger, Katie Lyden and Kyle Lyden (fiancé Abbey Carlton); great-granddaughter Laura Carmona; Sister Judith Fearer; and her brothers Ross (Janet), Edward and Harry Jack (Cindy) Fike. Her husband James F. Ackerman Jr. preceded her in death; parents, Ross and Jessie Fike; Sister Nancy Milliren; and her son-in-law Jeff Lyden. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 25, 2022 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. A funeral service in memory of Doris will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Painesville United Methodist Church, 71 North Park Place, Painesville, OH 44077. Burial will be at Mentor Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
