Department of Banking and Securities Announces Consumer Financial Protection Events for October 2021


Harrisburg, PA The Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities (DoBS) education and public relations staff will host and attend numerous virtual and in-person presentations to groups of seniors, service providers, and the general public in October to promote financial performance under Consumer Financial Protection Governor Tom Wolf’s initiative.

Unless otherwise noted, October outreach events will continue to be held virtually, in partnership with the organizations listed, and in public.

Virtual events for general audiences

Fredricksen Library (Cumberland County) October 19th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and October 26th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Fraud Bingo – This presentation – a fun and interactive game that teaches consumers how to protect themselves from investment fraud by playing BINGO – will be offered personally at:

Employees will present Make your retirement permanent and Scam bingo at the PA Association of School Retirees Annual Conference on 4th of October at the Eden Resort in Lancaster, Lancaster County. Open to conference participants.

A EIFFE Seminar on Preventing Financial Abuse and Exploitation of the Elderly in Your Community will be attended by attendees at the PA State Tax Collectors Association’s annual conference 15th October at the Holiday Inn Harrisburg in Grantville, Dauphin County. Open to conference participants.

Online Safety will join the Lawrence County PSEA Retired Chapter (Lawrence County) on October 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Open to members.

Investment Scams You Must Know About is presented virtually to a member of the Scranton (Lackawanna County) Chamber of Commerce on October 19th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Open to members.

The employees will virtually present a two-part series with the United Way of the Titusville Region (Crawford County):

  • Banking basics – How banks work, different types of retail customer accounts and much more – on the 20th of October from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Open to members.
  • Start today and retire tomorrow (Starting on October 27 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Open to members.
