Cressona Americal Legion events

The Cressona American Legion has several events planned over the coming days and weeks.

Trivia Night will be held at Legion Hall, 1 Front St on Saturday, May 21st from 7pm to 9pm. Everyone is cordially invited to take part.

Cressona American Legion Auxiliary Unit 286 is hosting a Little Miss Poppy/Poppy Queen event. All girls under the age of 18 are invited to attend this event, which will raise funds for poppies for the relief unit. Donations must be made to the Cressona American Legion no later than 6pm on Friday, May 27th. The girl who raises the most funds will participate in the Cressona Memorial Day Parade on May 30 and will be crowned Little Miss Poppy (0-12 years) or Poppy Queen (13-18 years). All girls who raise funds are welcome to join the parade. For more information or to receive poppies for fundraising please contact [email protected]

The Memorial Day Parade takes place on Monday May 30th. The parade starts at 9:00 am from the HYDRO parking lot. The parade begins at 9:30 am and ends at Cressona American Legion Plaza where a service will be held followed by light refreshments in the American Legion Canteen. All are welcome. If you or your group are interested in participating in the Memorial Day Parade, please email [email protected] for more information.

The post will hold its second annual flag retirement ceremony on Saturday, June 11, beginning at 5 p.m. at Friedensburg Fish and Game, 169 Stone Mountain Road, Pine Grove. After the ceremony, all are invited to Legion Post for light refreshments.

Don’t throw your torn or tattered flag in the trash, give it to the American Legion. There will soon be a drop off box for ready to pension American Flags outside of American Legion Post 286 in Cressona. Until then, flags may be placed in a bag and left at the post entrance or brought in during normal business hours. Thank you for helping to give Old Glory the proper treatment she so deserves when her flight time is up.

Thank you if you can place our information for these upcoming events for our nonprofit organization. If there is anything else you need, please feel free to email me and I will get it to you asap. Your newspaper is also kindly invited to our parade, where you can witness the coronation of our Little Miss Poppy or Poppy Queen. You are also welcome to the Flag retirement ceremony. We are a small legion compared to some others, but we strive and hope that all of these events will continue for many years to come. Thanks again.
