Armistice Day

The Mayor, Councilor Godfrey Bland, will meet with representatives of the Royal British Legion at the War Memorial in Royal Tunbridge Wells on Friday 11 November from 10.45am to commemorate the Armistice. There will be a brief ceremony and the traditional two minutes’ silence will be marked at 11:00 am by the sound of maroons.

At 11.30am the Mayor and members of the Royal British Legion will lay wreaths at Victoria Cross Grove in Dunorlan Park, Royal Tunbridge Wells.

You are invited to the Memorial, Thanksgiving and Dedication Service on Sunday 13 November at 10.45am at the War Memorial, Royal Tunbridge Wells.

The service will be led by Chaplain Gareth Jones 129 (Tunbridge Wells) Squadron Air Training Corps, Pastor of Pantiles Baptist Church.

Wreaths are laid by members of the Civic Party, representatives of service organizations, political parties and local groups, and members of the public.

After the service and wreath laying there will be a March Past for the service and other organizations to pay their respects. Mayor and Councilor Godfrey Bland will take the salute from the War Memorial.

Event at Tunbridge Wells Cemetery

At 12.30pm the public is invited to visit Tunbridge Wells Cemetery for the civic ceremony during which the Mayor will lay wreaths at the four war memorials in the cemetery. The first wreath will be laid by the Mayor at the Sacrifice Cross in the WW2 Garden of Remembrance followed by other organizations laying their wreaths.

The cemetery contains 73 Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) WW1 war graves, 63 CWGC WW2 war graves and 18 civilian WW2 war graves.

On Sunday 13th November there will be traffic delays in Royal Tunbridge Wells town centre, particularly around the Town Hall area. Please note that roads may be temporarily closed from approximately 10:00 AM to approximately 12:00 PM and on-street parking may be restricted. It is recommended to allow extra time for trips.
