The Vienna Holocaust Library in London is hosting a virtual panel discussion on a new book, Antisemitism on Social Media, which was published in March 2022.
The book is interdisciplinary and examines case studies across different platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, TikTok and YouTube. The book “deals with how social media behaves with its technology and business model [revolutionized] the prevalence of anti-Semitism and how this affects not only the victims of anti-Semitic hate speech, but society at large.” The book examines and simultaneously addresses anti-Semitism being armed by actors on the right, the left and the “extreme fringe”. with counter-strategies.
The book is co-edited by Sabine von Mering, Ph.D., of Brandeis University, where she is Professor of German and Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies; a core faculty member with the Environmental Studies Program; and Director of the Center for German and European Studies; and Monika Hubscher, Ph.D. Candidate at the Haifa Center for German and European Studies at the University of Haifa and research associate at the project “Anti-Semitism and Youth” at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany.
Contributing authors include Armin Langer, Ph.D., visiting scholar at Brandeis’ Schusterman Center for Israel Studies; and Jakob Guhl, manager at the London Institute for Strategic Dialogue.
