74th Army Day at the War Memorial in Pune

Southern Army Commander Lt. Gen. JS Nain laid a wreath at the war memorial in Pune on Saturday to mark the 74th Army Day. Army Day is celebrated on January 15th every year to celebrate the occasion when the first Indian General took command of the Indian Army from a British officer. On this day in 1949, Lieutenant-General and later Field Marshal KM Cariappa took over as Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from Lieutenant-General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British commander-in-chief.

“On the occasion of the 74th Army Day, Southern Command officers and soldiers have vowed to uphold the glorious traditions of the Indian Army and uphold the integrity and security of the nation,” said a Southern Command press statement.

The publication continued, “The Army Commander extended his best wishes to all ranks, veterans, Veernaris and their family members on this auspicious occasion and called upon all ranks of Southern Command to rededicate themselves to the task of protecting and protecting the Motherland.” Both internal and external opponents. He also reiterated Southern Command’s commitment to continued support of citizens in times of disaster or natural disaster.”
