6 Independent CT Bookstores That Will Make You Feel Like Rory Gilmore

If there’s a “Connecticut Most Famous Characters” contest, the Gilmore Girls could top the list.

The early 2000s TV show is about the day-to-day life of mother-daughter / best-friend duo Rory and Lorelai Gilmore.

The couple live in the fictional town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut, which is loosely based on some real-world cities, including New Milford and Washington Depot. The cities even host a Gilmore Girls Fan Fest every fall; this year’s takes place in Kent this October.

If there is one thing Rory Gilmore is famous for, it is a reader. In almost every episode there is a moment when Rory reads in Luke’s Diner or in the town’s pavilion or in front of the Independence Inn – famously inspired by Washington’s Mayflower Inn.

Live your own Gilmore Girls fall dream with a good book and of course coffee from these six Connecticut bookstores.
