BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (WNDU) – Big time golf is coming back to Benton Harbor.
Mark Memorial Day weekend on your calendar when the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship returns to Harbor Shores in 2022.
The senior championship is already an event that only takes place every two years in Benton Harbor, most recently in 2018 in Harbor Shores.
With the 2020 event canceled due to the pandemic, people have been expecting her return to Michiana for four years.
That’s the number of years since the last Senior PGA Championship at Harbor Shores. The tour took a mulligan to its 2020 event due to Covid-19.
“Harbor Shores really is the unofficial home of the Kitchenaid Senior PGA Championship. So having to wait four years to come back I think everyone is really excited that we are bringing these great golfers back to Harbor Shores and the surrounding area besides golf to offer all of the things that championship brings to the community ” said PGA representative Brandon Haney.
Off-course events include the KitchenAid Fairway Club, where people can learn some kitchen tricks from local and celebrity chefs. You can also check out the latest and greatest from KitchenAid.
There’s also the Kids Zone on the weekends, which started at the 2018 championship through a partnership with the local YMCA. There will be food trucks and activities for children in Jean Klock Park right on the water.
“We also have our community showcase. This is a big deal for us. We want to showcase Southwest Michigan. We will have a variety of groups in the process of showing and showing what the region really has to offer. Everything from food to hotels to non-golf activities, ”said Haney.
And what does it mean to get to know Southwest Michigan without knowing our breweries and wineries.
“We also have our Maker’s Trail 19th hole, a very popular course on the 17th green. A covered facility with access to all of the manufacturer’s craft beers, wines and spirits. A very popular hole that we really enjoy in our championship” says Haney.
